2‐[Dimethyl(2‐naphthylmethyl)silyl]ethoxy carbonate (NSEC) is a novel protecting group to mask hydroxyl groups. NSECCl is available in three steps from chlorodimethylvinylsilane and 2‐(bromomethyl)naphthalene.
