preparing permethyl derivatives of GAs and GA-glucosides is described using NaH and MeI in DMF. The permethyl derivatives of the glucosides give sharp GC peaks and their MS provide information for the identification of the GA and carbohydrate moieties. GA8-2-O-β-D-glucoside (4d), GA8-13-O-β-D-glucoside (5c) and GA20-13-O-β-D-glucoside (6c) could be obtained by partial synthesis. Synthetic 4d was compared with isolated GA8-2-O-β-D-glucoside1 in order to confirm its structure. In addition, the syntheses of β-D-glucosyl esters of GA7 (7b). GA8 (8b) and GA20 (9b) are described.
