1,3-Dimethyl-2-phenylbenzimidazoline as a novel and efficient reagent for mild reductive dehalogenation of .alpha.-halo carbonyl compounds and acid chlorides
A novel reaction of α-haloketone (α-bromo and α-chloro ketone) with irradiation under microwave gave the corresponding α-hydroxyketone and pyrazine derivative in good yields. In the case of α,α′-dibromo ketone, α-diketone was obtained. This reaction affords a new, clean and convenient synthetic method for α-hydroxyketone, α-diketone, α-chloro ketone and pyrazine derivative.
An efficient synthetic method for the preparation of multisubstituted furans, thiophenes, and pyrroles using ynolates was developed. This novel formal [4 + 1] annulation by C2-C3 and C3-C4 bond formations includes cycloaddition, cyclization, decarboxylation, and dehydration as key steps.

Using a simple copper catalyst, the alkylation of nitroalkanes with α-bromocarbonyls is now possible. This method provides a general, functional group tolerant route to β-nitrocarbonyl compounds, including nitro amides, esters, ketones, and aldehydes. The highly sterically dense, functional group rich products from these reactions can be readily elaborated into a range of complex nitrogen-containing
Ynolates were found to react with alpha-alkoxy-, alpha-siloxy-, and alpha-aryloxyketones at room temperature to afford tetrasubstituted olefins with high Z selectivity. Since the geometrical selectivity was determined in the ring opening of the beta-lactone enolate intermediates, the torquoselectivity was controlled by the ethereal oxygen atoms. From experimental and theoretical studies, the high Z
Some α-haloketones react with furan in methanolic solution in the presence of base to form the 3-oxo-8-oxabicyclo[3.2.1]oct-6-enes (), the products derived from a [4+3] cycloaddition of an allylium intermediate ( or ).
