A resorcylic acid lactone (RAL) framework was constructed based on a three-component coupling approach. The key step was the intermolecular alkylation of a protected cyanohydrin with an aromatic scaffold, and the subsequent carbonylative esterification of the aryl iodide with an alcohol.
