The stability of glutathione peroxidase was assessed in vivo via oxidative inactivation by methyl ethyl ketone peroxide. The stability of glutathione peroxidase was compared to other enzymes. Some of the enzymes tested were very stable to methyl ethyl ketone peroxide. Glutathione peroxidase in the absence of glutathione was relatively slowly inactivated. Thus, glutathione peroxidase appears to be a relatively stable enzyme & is well suited to perform its role in peroxide detoxification & prevention of oxidative deterioration of cells.
