The cedrene carbon skeleton was directly and efficiently assembled from a simple monocyclic precursor by the strategic use of a high yielding intramolecular Pauson–Khand cyclisation reaction. A small number of further synthetic manipulations provided a concise formaltotalsynthesis of α- and β-cedrene.
