Regiodefined synthesis of α-trimethylsilyl ketones is attained by one of three different routes: isomerization of β-trimethylsilyl allyl alcohols (route A), isomerization of β′-trimethylsilyl allyl alcohols (route B), and dehydrogenation of β-trimethylsilyl alcohols via transfer hydrogenation to α,β-enones (route C). All of these procedures are catalyzed efficiently by HRh(PPh3)4 at about 100 °C. Route

Stereoselective 2,3-sigmatropic rearrangement of the propargyl 2-silylallyl ether(5) leads to the vinyl silane (7), which, after protiodesilylation and palladium catalysed coupling to 3-bromoprop-2-enol, produces the ,-dienynol (10) a key intermediate in leukotriene synthesis.

Facile preparations of a variety of vinylsilanes with different functional groups are described which rely upon the utility of the three sigmatropic processes of 2-(trimethylsilyl)allyl alcohol derivatives, i.e., the Claisen and [2,3]-Wittig rearrangement and the tandem [2,3]-Wittig-oxy-Cope rearrangement.
