Monastrol((±)-Monastrol)是一种具有细胞透性的kinesin-5(KIF11)小分子抑制剂。这种药物能够维持半纺锤体的分离状态。

Monastrol并不是通过细胞周期的S期和G2期或中心体复制来抑制细胞周期进程。相反,它能够快速且可逆地阻滞有丝分裂,并在爪蟾卵提取物中抑制双极纺锤体的形成。
将交感神经元细胞暴露于Monastrol几小时后,会观察到轴突数量增加及生长速率提升;然而,长时间暴露则会导致轴突总体长度与对照组无异。感觉神经元也表现出类似的效果:短期暴露下轴突生长速率升高,但进一步延长暴露时间将导致轴突变短,并显示出对药物更为敏感的特性。尽管如此,在整体培养状况上,交感神经元细胞比Taxol处理组更加健康;Taxol是一种常用于治疗癌症的药物。
在HeLa细胞中,Monastrol能够激活纺锤体检查点并阻滞有丝分裂进程,从而引起凋亡。
