Abstract Novel mono- and bisphosphinite (−)-pinane-based ligands have been synthesized from (−)-α-pinene. Mixed with [(COD)2Rh]+[BF4]−, these ligands displayed moderate up to high catalytic activity in hydrogenation of dimethyl itaconate with dihydrogen.
