    des-AB-type aglycone of antitumor steroidal saponin OSW-1 was concisely prepared starting from readily available Hajos ketone. We further completed the synthesis of des-AB-OSW-1 analogue by the installation of the disaccharide moiety into the des-AB aglycone, and evaluated its antitumor activity.     (R) on MCPs dictates the stable conformation of the core bicyclic 5/6 ring system. The conformational preference seemed to influence their reactivity toward nucleophiles. Consequently, a thiol reactivity assay showed that MCP-5b has higher reactivity than MCP-5a. The results indicate that the conformational switching of MCPs may control reactivity and bioactivity in the presence of steric effects.

    Concise synthesis of BC-ring model compounds of 13E, 17E-globostellatic acid X methyl ester, an anti-angiogenic triterpene derivative from Indonesian marine sponge, was achieved through ynolate olefination and allylic oxidation as key steps. The model compound 5, which was synthesized within 10 reaction steps from commercially available Hajos-Parrish ketone, showed anti-proliferative activity against HUVECs with moderate selectivity.
