(-)-Aristeromycin (l), a typical pseudo-nucleoside exhibiting various biological activities, was synthesized from D-glucose by using an intramolecular condensation process to form a nitro-cyclopentene (12) and by subsequent employment of a stereoselective Michael-type addition reaction of 6N-benzoyladenine to introduce a purine base moiety.
