    Thermoset products are prepared by polymerizing (A) at least one thermosettable compound which contains both a maleimide group and a cyanate group such as 3-­(2,5-dihydro-2,5-dioxo-1H-pyrrol-1-yl)phenyl cyanate and optionally (B) at least one of (1) at least one aromatic polycyanate such as bisphenol A dicyanate; (2) at least one polymaleimide such as N,Nʹ-(methylenedi-p-­phenylene)bismaleimide; (3) at least one material having an average of more than one vicinal epoxide group per molecule such as a diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A; (4) at least one polymerizable ethylenically unsaturated material such as styrene; or (5) a mixture of any two or more of components 1-4 in any combination.

    The invention relates to acid halide and/or acyllactam functional compounds, to polylactam block copolymers derived therefrom by lactam polymerization at a lactam group, and to the use of such block copolymers in polyamide mixtures. The compounds contain liquid crystalline compounds or compounds which combine with acyllactam to form a compound with liquid crystalline properties. The products of this invention are useful as accelerators in the preparation of nylon block copolymers, in particular block copolymers with improved stiffness. The block copolymers are useful in products requiring good tensile strength, chemical resistance and/or heat resistance, and are particularly useful in electrical engineering applications and in the aircraft industry.

    A polyester or polyesteramide capable of forming an anisotropic melt containing residues derived from dicarboxylic acids, dihydric phenols, hydroxyaromatic acids and aminophenols characterised in that at least 10 mole % of the acid residues of the polymer are radicals derived from fumaric acid or a substituted fumaric acid. Preferably at least 10 mole % of the residues other than the residues of fumaric acid or substituted fumaric acid are aromatic ring-substituted residues. The polyester or polyesteramides of the invention are particularly suitable for blending with chlorine-containing polymers at concentrations of up to 25% by weight of the polymer blend to improve the processability of the chlorine-containing polymer. A polyester in which the acid residues are entirely aliphatic is particularly suitable for blending with poly(vinyl chloride).
