  A thermographic element comprising in a non-aqueous binder medium a silver salt oxidising agent in reactive association with a compound comprising a plurality of redox colour releasing moieties such that oxidation of each redox colour releasing moiety causes release from said compound of a thermally diffusible dye. The compounds many of which are new incorporate two or more developer moieties into a single molecule to minimise the diffusibility of the compound. Following oxidation, either directly by the silver salt or by means of a cross-oxidising agent, each oxidised developer moiety releases a thermally diffusible dye. The compounds are of sufficient size and molecular weight to slow or prevent diffusion in imaging systems and yet possess several active developer moieties per molecule which is advantageous over known ballasted dye releasers which comprise bulky molecules with only a single developer moiety.

  The present invention comprises methods and compositions for antimicrobial devices comprising metal containing compositions which are resistant to heat and light discoloration. The metal containing compositions may comprise salts or complexes of silver, copper or zinc. In one aspect the compositions comprise silver salts. In another aspect, the compositions comprise silver complexes. In one aspect, the metal salts may comprise metal salts of saccharin, acesulfame, long chain fatty acids, and alkyl dicarboxylic acids. The compositions further comprise polymers which form salts or complexes with silver, copper or zinc. The methods of the present invention comprise treating devices with the metal containing compositions, including, but not limited to, such devices as woven wound care materials, catheters, patient care devices, and collagen matrices. The present invention further comprises treatment of humans and animals with the antimicrobial devices described herein.

The stabilizers are represented by the following general formulae: wherein: R¹, R², and R³ are independently H, halogen, an alkyl group, an alkoxy group, a thioalkyl group, a cycloalkyl group, a perhalogenated alkyl group, or taken together form a cycloaliphatic group. Compounds of formula (I) may be used as stabilizer precursors in photothermographic silver imaging media to provide post-processing stability without significantly adversely affecting desired properties of the photothermographic material.
