    A hydroxyl-containing monomer of formula (1) is provided wherein R 1 is H, F, methyl or trifluoromethyl, R 2 and R 3 are monovalent C 1 -C 15 hydrocarbon groups, or R 2 and R 3 may form an aliphatic ring. The monomers are useful for the synthesis of polymers which have high transparency to radiation of up to 500 nm and the effect of controlling acid diffusion so that the polymers may be used as a base resin to formulate radiation-sensitive resist compositions having a high resolution.

    An ultraviolet-curable composition of the present invention, which is used for a light transmission layer of an optical disk, includes a urethane (meth)acrylate having an isocyanate structure; and at least one of a monofunctional (meth)acrylate and a difunctional (meth)acrylate, wherein the combined amount of the urethane (meth)acrylate, the monofunctional (meth)acrylate and the difunctional (meth)acrylate is at least 90% by mass of the ultraviolet-curable composition. This ultraviolet-curable composition for a light transmission layer is able to realize an optical disk that exhibits excellent durability even under conditions of high temperature and high humidity, minimal decrease in light reflectance, and excellent adhesion between layers.

    An optical disc of the present invention includes at least a light reflection layer and a light transmission layer formed on a substrate, wherein recording and reading are performed by a laser beam through the light transmission layer, the light transmission layer is formed from a cured film of a ultraviolet-curable composition containing an epoxy acrylate resin obtained by reacting a half ester compound (A), which is obtained from a lactone-adduct of a hydroxyalkyl (meth)acrylate (a1) and a dibasic acid anhydride (a2), and an epoxy resin (B), and the film thickness of the light transmission layer is from 50 to 150 μm.

    An ultraviolet-curable composition of the present invention, which is used for a light transmission layer of an optical disk, includes a urethane (meth)acrylate having an isocyanate structure; and at least one of a monofunctional (meth)acrylate and a difunctional (meth)acrylate, wherein the combined amount of the urethane (meth)acrylate, the monofunctional (meth)acrylate and the difunctional (meth)acrylate is at least 90% by mass of the ultraviolet-curable composition. This ultraviolet-curable composition for a light transmission layer is able to realize an optical disk that exhibits excellent durability even under conditions of high temperature and high humidity, minimal decrease in light reflectance, and excellent adhesion between layers.

    An ultraviolet-curable composition for an optical disk intermediate layer includes a urethane (meth)acrylate (a) having three or more radical-polymerizable unsaturated bonds, a (meth)acrylate (b) having four or more radical-polymerizable unsaturated bonds which is other than the urethane (meth)acrylate (a), and a monofunctional alicyclic (meth)acrylate (c), wherein a B-type viscosity at 25°C is not more than 1,000 mPa·s. Even when a low-cost general-purpose resin such as a polycarbonate is used as a stamper, deformation or loss of the uneven pattern shape or cracking of the disk is very unlikely, meaning the ultraviolet-curable composition is very useful for the intermediate layers of optical disks.
