Synthesis of α-amino and α-hydroxy acids under volcanic conditions: implications for the origin of life
摘要:
Facile synthesis of alpha-hydroxy and alpha-amino acids is observed at temperatures from 145 to 280 degrees C with catalytic Ni2+, with cyano ligands as source for C and N, and with CO as a reductant and as a source for C. Nitrogen-15 labeled butyl 4,5,6,7-tetrahydro-2H-isoindoIe-1-carboxylate was prepared via butyl iso-cyanoacetate from 15N-glycine in an overall 46% yield. This bicyclic intermediate was converted into nitrogen-15 and carbon-13 labeled 2,3:7,8:12,13:17,18-tetrabutanoporphyrin, a useful model system for the sedimentary tetrahydrobenzoporphyrins.
