    The first total synthesis of solanacol, a member of the strigolactone family, features ring‐closing metathesis, enzymatic kinetic resolution, and atom‐transfer radical cyclization. This defines the stereostructure of the natural product. The best hormonal activity is revealed by an acetylated derivative at O4 (see scheme).

    Two products have been isolated from the reaction of anhydrosepedonin with alkali and identified as 3-hydroxy-5-methyl benzoic acid and 3,4-dimethyl-5-hydroxybenzoic acid. The structure of the latter compound was established by unambiguous synthesis. In the course of this work the remaining o- and m-hydroxybenzoic acids derived from o-xylene were also prepared.

    A fiber-reinforced rubber composition capable of providing a vulcanizate having an excellent strength and modulus and a production process thereof. This fiber-reinforced rubber composition includes fine short fibers of thermoplastic polymer having groups buried in vulcanizable rubber. The vulcanizable rubber and the thermoplastic polymer are grafted to each other through a resol type alkylphenol formaldehyde resin precondensate or a novolak type phenol formaldehyde resin precondensate at an interface of the fiber. The ratio of the fiber to the vulcanizable rubber (A) 1 to 70 parts by weight based on 100 parts by weight of the rubber in the case of the resol type alkylphenol formaldehyde resin precondensate or (B) 1 to 100 parts by weight based on 100 parts by weight of the rubber in the case of the novolak type phenol formaldehyde resin precondensate.

    There is disclosed a light-sensitive composition comprising a 2-halomethyl-1,3,4-oxadiazole compound having in the fifth position thereof a heterocyclic radical containing at least one element selected from the group consisting of oxygen, nitrogen, sulphur and selenium directly or through a vinyl radical, which composition shows a high sensitivity despite of the presence of the oxadiazole compound and an excellent developability, can be manufactured into a highly sensitive positive lithographic printing plate and provides a sharp and clear printout image of high stability.
