Abstract A kinetic study of the solvolysis of six alkylphenyl thiophenoxyphosphonium chlorides in 50% water/methanol is reported. The rates of solvolysis, where thiophenol and phosphine oxides are formed, are little influenced by the substituents linked to phosphorus.
