Stereoselective dehydrative alkylation/annulation of hydroxy β-diketones, β-ketoesters or β-diesters using Mitsunobu conditions (Bu3P/DEAD) proceeds under mild and essentially neutral conditions affording cis fused bicyclic dihydrofurans in good yields.
