A nine-step synthesis, starting from the readily available bicyclo[2.2.2]oct-7-ene-2,5-dione (19a), has provided access to a hydroxyl-substituted [3]peristylane. Furthermore, the disubstituted nature of peristylane 24 causes it to be the first chiral member of this compound class to be synthesized.
