Nickel boride is inferior to Raney nickel for the desulphurisation of thiophens. Hemithioacetals are rapidly cleaved by nickel boride, allowing regeneration of the ketone. Triterpene 2-enes are obtained in excellent yield from 3-ketones by desulphurisation
