Optically active dimethylcyclohexenones, potential building blocks for enantioselective syntheses of various naturally active substances, were prepared. These compounds were obtained by oxidation with KMnO4/Pb(O Ac )4 or ozonolysis of the corresponding cyclopentenic precursors, followed by aldol condensation.
