  The cobalt(I)-mediated cocyclization between bis(trimethylsilyl)ethyne and monocyclic diyne 8 led to new spirobenzocyclobutene 9. This quite stable compound was easily transformed into variously substituted spirobenzocyclobutenes which are versatile synthetic intermediates.
