A gold(III)-catalyzed hydroarylation of different olefins is reported here. AuCl3 works as an excellent catalyst to mediate reactions between various heterocycles and electron deficient olefins and alkynes under mild conditions. The addition of indole and methyl indole at both high and ambient pressures to a series of Michael acceptors under the influence of ytterbium triflate was investigated. Under ambient pressure the more reactive and less stericallyhindered electrophiles gave the expected 3-alkylated indoles in good to excellent yields.
