Photolysis of substituted α-chloro acetophenones has been studied in different solvent systems wherein 1,2-aryl migration is found to be media controlled. Effect of substituents on the migratory aptitude and a direct access to phenylacetic acids, in practical yields, has been described.

p-hydroxyphenacyl (pHP) ammonium caged derivatives at 313 nm releases primary and secondary amines or ammonia in nearly quantitative yields via the photo-Favorskii reaction when conducted in acidic or neutral aqueous buffered media. The reaction efficiencies are strongly dependent on the pH with the most efficient and highest yields obtained when the pH of the media maintains the ammonium and p-hydroxyl groups

A melt processable poly(ester-amide) which is capable of forming an anisotropic melt phase is provided. The poly(ester-amide) of the present invention consists essentially of the recurring units (a) p-oxybenzoyl moiety, (b) 2,6-dicarboxynaphthalene moiety, (c) aromatic moiety capable of forming an amide linkage in the polymer, and, optionally, (d) p-dioxyphenyl moiety and (e) other carbocyclic dicarboxyl moiety, in the proportions indicated. Preferably, the aromatic moiety capable of forming an amide linkage is derived from p-aminophenol or p-phenylene-diamine. The carbocyclic dicarboxyl moiety is preferably aromatic. The resulting poly-(ester-amide) exhibits a melting temperature below approximately 400°C, preferably below approximately 350°C. The poly(ester-amide) of the present invention is preferably formed by a melt polymerization technique.

Disclosed is a liquid crystal polyester resin for laminate, wherein, in the molecular weight distribution of an absolute molecular weight measured by the gel permeation chromatograph/light scattering method, the area fraction of the portion having an absolute molecular weight of 10,000 or less is 10 to 40%, and the area fraction of the portion having an absolute molecular weight of 50,000 or more is 3 to 20%, relative to 100% of the total peak area. Provided is a liquid crystal polyester resin for laminate, which is capable of obtaining a film having excellent metal adhesion and tensile properties. Also provided are a liquid crystal polyester resin composition which has excellent solubility and is capable of handling at a low temperature and obtaining a film which is free from cracks and has a uniform thickness, and a laminate and a liquid crystal polyester resin film comprising the same.
