The use of bis(pyridine)iodoniumtetrafluoroborate (IPy(2)BF(4)) as an oxidizing agent towards different types of alcohols is reported. The observed reactivity involves different reaction pathways, as a function both of the structures of the starting materials and of the experimental conditions. Interestingly, the title iodine-containing compound is capable of a tuneable reaction with simple cycloalkanols

A metal‐free radical borylation of alkyl and aryl iodides with bis(catecholato)diboron (B2cat2) as the boron source under mild conditions is introduced. The borylation reaction is operationally easy to conduct and shows high functional group tolerance and broad substrate scope. Hydration of a wide range of alkynes to the corresponding ketones has been afforded in high yields at room temperature by using gold(I)−phosphine complexes as catalyst, with no acidic cocatalysts required. Suitable substrates covering alkyl and aryl terminal alkynes, enynes, internal alkynes, and propargylic alcohols, including enantiopure forms, are cleanly transformed to the corresponding ketones
