substitution patterns react with organocuprates regioselectively under 1,5-(SN2′′)-substitution to provide vinylallenes 11 and 12. With lithium dimethylcuprate, reduced vinylallenes originating from a (formal) transfer of a hydride ion to the substrate are formed in some cases. The products are usually obtained as mixtures of (E/Z)isomers; however, pure (E)-vinylallenes are formed occasionally. The 1,5-substitutions

A total synthesis of the fostriecin has been achieved in 24 steps from enyne 11. The lactone moiety was installed by a Leighton allylation and Grubbs ring-closingmetathesisreaction. The highly reactive Z,Z,E-triene moiety was installed via a late-stage Suzuki−Miyaura cross-coupling of a remarkably stable Z-vinyl boronate. The relative and absolute stereocenters of the C-8,9,11 triol were generated

Treatment of RuHCl(CO)(PPh3)(3) with (3E,5E,7E,9E,11E)-HC C-(CH=CH)(5)-C CH produces [RuCl(CO)(PPh3)(2)](2)[mu-(CH=CH)(7)]. The later complex reacts with PMe3 to give [RuCl(CO)(PMe3)(3)](2)[mu-(CH=CH)(7)], the structure of which has been confirmed by X-ray diffraction. The through-space distance from one Ru to the other is 19.88 angstrom. (c) 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
