A New Type of Oxidation-Reduction Condensation by the Combined Use of Phenyl Diphenylphosphinite and Oxidant

A new type of oxidation-reduction condensation of alcohols with sulfur, nitrogen, and oxygen nucleophiles by the combined use of phenyl diphenylphosphinite (PhOPPh2) and oxidants such as azides or diethyl azodicarboxylate (DEAD) are described. In these reactions, chiral secondary and tertiary alcohols are converted into the corresponding chiral sulfides, azides, esters and ethers under mild and neutral conditions with almost complete inversion of stereochemical configuration.

This invention relates to catalyst compounds and the synthesis and applications useful in olefin metathesis reactions. The catalyst compounds of the invention are represented by the formula (I): wherein M is a Group 8 metal; X1 and X2 are anionic ligands; L1 and L2 are neutral two electron donor ligands. The present invention also relates to an easy applicable catalyst synthesis and the application in different olefin metathesis processes, e.g. Reaction Injection Molding (RIM), process to make α-olefins from fatty acid ester, e.g. methyl oleate.

Room-temperature Mössbauer parameters have been measured for seven LFe(CO)4 compounds and fifteen complexes of the type L2Fe(CO)3 where L is an organophosphine or similar ligand. The trend in isomer shift values has been interpreted in terms of a dominant σ-interaction synergistically buttressed by π-bonding. A quasi-linear correlation (R= 0·92) has been found between δ and |ΔEq|.
