    A method for preparation of a printing plate by an electrophotographic process comprising providing a peelable first transfer layer (T.sub.1) containing a resin (A) capable of being removed upon a chemical reaction treatment on an electrophotographic light-sensitive element, forming a toner image on the first transfer layer by an electrophotographic process, either (a) providing a second transfer layer (T.sub.2) containing a resin (A) capable of being removed upon the chemical reaction treatment on the toner image and the first transfer layer in the non-image area and transferring the toner image together with the first transfer layer and the second transfer layer from the light-sensitive element to a receiving material having a surface capable of providing a hydrophilic surface suitable for lithographic printing at the time of printing, or (b) transferring the toner image together with the first transfer layer from the light-sensitive element onto the second transfer layer (T.sub.2) provided on the receiving material, and then removing the whole first transfer layer (T.sub.1) and the second transfer layer (T.sub.2) in the non-image area by the chemical reaction treatment. According to the method, printing plates which produces prints of good image qualities can be continuously obtained in a stable manner for a long period of time even when the transfer is conducted under conditions of low temperature, low pressure and high speed.

    A method of forming a color image comprising providing a first peelable transfer layer 12 on an electrophotographic light-sensitive element 11 whose surface has releasability, forming one or more color toner images 3 on the first transfer layer by a conventional electrophotographic process, further forming a second transfer layer 13 on the toner images 3, and transferring the toner images 3 together with the first transfer layer 12 and the second transfer layer 13 to a receiving material 16 is disclosed. The method is excellent in transferability of toner image and provides simply and stably color images of high accuracy and high quality without color shear. The transfer layer has good releasability from an electrophotographic light-sensitive element and good adhesion to a receiving material. A color duplicate formed has good retouching property, sealing property and storage stability.

    A method for preparation of a waterless lithographic printing plate by an electrophotographic process comprising providing a peelable transfer layer (T) containing a thermoplastic resin (A) on a surface of an electrophotographic light-sensitive element, forming a non-fixing toner image by an electrophotographic process using a liquid developer on the transfer layer, transferring the toner image together with the transfer layer (T) from the electrophotographic light-sensitive element onto a primary receptor, transferring the toner image together with the transfer layer (T) from the primary receptor onto a support for lithographic printing plate, providing on the transfer layer (T) bearing the toner image a non-tacky resin layer having adhesion to the transfer layer (T) larger than adhesion between the toner image and the non-tacky resin layer, and selectively removing the non-tacky resin layer provided on the toner image. The method is suitable for a scanning exposure system using a laser beam of a low power, and simply and rapidly provides a waterless lithographic printing plate excellent in image qualities and printing durability.

    3,6-Dimethyl-3-hydroxy-oct-1-ynes and -oct-1-enes and their esters with lower alkanoic acids, of the general formula I ##STR1## where X and Y are H or the two X's and/or the two Y's together are a further bond between the carbon atoms on which they are present, and R is H, --CO--CH.sub.3, --CO--C.sub.2 H.sub.5 or --CO--C.sub.3 H.sub.7, their use as scents, and a process for the preparation of 3,6-dimethyl-3-hydroxy-octane. The novel compounds exhibit interesting, predominantly floral, woody, herbal and fruity notes. The alcohols of the formula I are of particular importance because they serve as intermediates for a novel and particularly advantageous method of obtaining 3,6-dimethyl-3-hydroxy-octane, a compound required in large amounts as a fragrance for soaps and detergents.
