    Disclosed are novel compounds and pharmaceutical formulations having antiviral activity. The disclosed compounds have the formula ##SPC1## Wherein one R.sup.2 is a hydrogen atom and the other R.sup.2 is the radical ##SPC2## A is a straight chain alkylene group having 2 or 3 carbon atoms and each R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 is a hydrogen atom, an alkyl radical having 1 to 3 carbon atoms or each set of R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 taken together with the nitrogen atom to which they are attached is a saturated monocyclic heterocyclic group. Also included are the acid addition salts of these bases. These compounds may be prepared by various methods which are described.

    Bis-basic substituted aromatic polycyclic compounds of the following structure are useful in treating conditions of delayed hypersensitivity: ##SPC1## Wherein [W] represents an aromatic polycyclic nucleus selected from fluoranthene, fluorene, fluoren-9-ol, fluoren-9-one, dibenzofuran, dibenzothiophene, carbazole, N-(lower)alkyl carbazole, xanthene, xanthone, thioxanthene, phenoxathiin, or anthraquinone; Y represents carbonyloxy, carbonylthio, oxygen, divalent sulfur or carbonyl with the provisos that when Y is carbonyloxy or carbonylthio, [W] is other than thioxanthene, phenoxathiin or anthraquinone, when Y is oxygen or divalent sulfur, [W] is other than thioxanthene or phenoxathiin, and when Y is carbonyl, [W] is other than fluoren-9-ol or anthraquinone; A represents a straight or branched alkylene chain of from 1 to 6 carbon atoms with the proviso that when Y is carbonyloxy or carbonylthio, A contains at least 2 straight chain carbon atoms, that is, an ethylene radical; R represents hydrogen, a straight or branched lower alkyl group of from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, phenyl or benzyl; and pharmaceutically useful acid addition salts.

    Compounds of the following general structure are useful in treating conditions of delayed hypersensitivity: ##EQU1## wherein [W] represents an aromatic polycyclic nucleus selected from fluoranthene, fluorene, fluoren-9-ol, fluoren-9-one, carbazole, N-(lower) alkyl carbazole or anthraquinone; Y represents carbonyl, divalent sulfur or oxygen; with the proviso that when Y is carbonyl, [W] is other than fluoren-9-ol or anthraquinone; A represents a straight or branched alkylene chain of from 1 to 6 carbon atoms; and each of R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 represents hydrogen, lower alkyl of from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, or alkenyl of from 3 to 6 carbon atoms having the vinyl unsaturation in other than the 1-position; and pharmaceutically useful acid addition salts thereof.

    This process is a process for production of a vinyl chloride polymer by suspension polymerization or emulsion polymerization of vinyl chloride monomer or a mixture of vinyl chloride monomer with a vinyl monomer copolymerizable with said vinyl chloride monomer in an aqueous medium, characterized in that the polymerization is carried out in a polymerizer, the inner wall surface and portions of the auxiliary equipment thereof which may come into contact with the monomer during polymerization being previously coated with a scaling preventive comprising at least one selected from dyes, pigments and aromatic or heterocyclic compounds having at least 5 conjugated π bonds, while controlling the chloride ion concentration in the reaction mixture to not higher than 100 ppm. According to said process, scaling onto the inner wall surface of a polymerizer, etc. during polymerization can be prevented effectively and surely.

    A method of preventing polymer scales from sticking in a polymerization vessel during the polymerization of a monomer having an ethylenically double bond, wherein said polymerization is carried out in a polymerization vessel of which the inner wall and other parts with which said monomer comes into contact during polymerization are previously first coated with (a) a coating solution comprising a cationic dye and the resulting coating is then coated with (b) a coating solution comprising at least one component selected from the group consisting of anionic polymeric compounds, amphoteric polymeric compounds and hydroxyl group-containing organic compounds. Polymer scale formation can be effectively prevented.
