Substituted hepta-1,6-dien-3-ones with green/fruity odours green/galbanum olfactophore model

Following an analysis of available SAR data on green/galbanum-smelling molecules, a series of new 2-substituted hepta-1,6-dien-3-ones and their analogues were prepared and their olfactory properties evaluated. The study allowed to select efficient new odourants-potential substitutes for natural galbanum oil-and to generate an olfactophore model for the green/galbanum note. (C) 2003 Elsevier Science Ltd. Development of drug intermediates by using direct organocatalytic multi-component reactions

Novel, economic and environmentally friendly one-pot three-component Knoevenagel/hydrogenation (K/H) and four-component Knoevenagel/hydrogenation/alkylation (K/H/A) reactions of ketones, CH-acids, dihydropyridines and alkyl halides using proline and proline/metal carbonate catalysis, respectively, have been developed. Many of the products of these K/H and K/H/A reactions have direct applications in pharmaceutical chemistry.
Anodic oxidation in a solution containing a variety of olefins and a small amount of Mn(OAc)2.4H2O brought about Mn+3-mediated carbon-carbon bond formation, such as efficient carboxymethylation of styrene derivatives to the corresponding gamma-aryl-gamma-butyrolactones, and selective coupling of active methylene compounds with non-activated monoolefins, unconjugated dienes or 5-arylpent-1-enes.
