The reactions of 7,7-dichlorobicyclo[4.1.0] heptane 1 were carried out with C-H acids in the presence of t- BuOK in DMSO. The respective syn-7-chlorobicyclo[4.1.0] heptane derivatives 3 were the major products of the reactions with diethyl malonate and ethyl cyanoacetate. The dehydrochlorinated material α-bicyclo[4.1.0] hepten-5-yl-α-phenylpropionitrile 5c, was obtained in good yield in the reaction
