  A method for the homogeneous catalytic enantioselective hydrogenation of alkyl and alkenyl substituted acrylic acids wherein these acids are selectively hydrogenated at the double bond alpha, beta to the acid function, said hydrogenations are catalyzed by rhodium complexes of chiral tertiary phosphines.
