    Antillatoxin is an ichthyotoxic cyclic lipopeptide isolated by Gerwick and co-workers from the marine cyanobacterium Lyngbya majuscula collected in Curaçao. Although we have finished the stereoselective total synthesis of antillatoxin having the proposed structure with (4S,5R)-configuration, we have found that the synthetic sample was not identical with the natural one and the proposed structure should

    Anomalous syn-diastereoselectivity of indium-mediated coupling of aldehydes with bromides Z-3b and E-3b is reported. The reaction afforded high syn selectivity regardless of the allylic bromide geometry. Preliminary studies on the enantioselective indium-mediated allylation were attempted and found to give the desired products in moderate yield with high syn selectivity and enantioselectivity.

    We have established a new reaction condition for the indium-mediated allylation of an unreactive secondary allylic bromide with aldehydes in aqueous media to afford the corresponding homoallylic alcohols in high yields and syn diastereoselectivity. Furthermore, it has provided an easy entry to the key intermediate for the total synthesis of antillatoxin under mild and environment profitable conditions

    Indium mediates the coupling of β-bromocrotylbromide with carbonyl compounds in saturated ammonium chloride in the presence of lanthanide triflate under sonication to give the corresponding compounds in good yield and moderate to high syn diastereoselectivity.

    Synthesis of the key intermediate (5) of Antillatoxin (1) is presented. The synthesis is based on the indium-mediated allylation of 2,4,6,6-tetramethyl-2,4-heptadienal (3) and methyl (2)-2-(bromomethyl)-2-butenoate (4) in saturated ammonium chloride catalyzed by lanthanide triflate which afforded the corresponding product 2 in good yield and high syn selectivity.
