  Caparratriene (1), a new sesquiterpene hydrocarbon with significant growth inhibitory activity against CEM leukemia cells, was first synthesized starting from (R)–(+)–citronellal through 3 steps in an overall yield of 17.5%. The absolute configuration at C7 was determined as R.
