  Dendropanoxide (1) was synthesized by the reaction of 3β,4β-epoxyfriedelane (19) with boron trifluoride etherate in ether at −10 °C. In the rearrangement reaction, 4α-fluorofriedelan-3β-ol (20), D : B-friedo-olean-5(10)-en-3β-ol (21), β-amyrin (22), and D : B-friedo-olean-5-en-3β-ol (23) were also produced.

  Epoxidation of alnus-5(10)-en-3β-yl acetate with m-chloroperbenzoic acid gave a 5α,10α-epoxide, treatment of which with boron trifluoride etherate afforded multiflora-5,8-dien-3β-yl acetate. On hydrogenation and hydrolysis, the diene gave isomultiflorenol.

  The molecular rearrangements of glutenols on treatment with phosphorus pentachloride and phosphorus oxychloride and pyridine as well as on solvolysis of the corresponding tosyl derivatives have been investigated. Glut-5-en-3β-ol (Ia) and glut-5(10)-en-3α-ol (IId) gave diene A (III). Glut-5-en-3α-ol (Id) gave diene B (VII) and glut-5(10)-en-3β-ol (IIa) gave diene C (XIII) by ring contraction.
