(1→4)-linked disaccharides. About 35–40% of (1→6)-and 15–20% of (1→4)-linked disaccharides were oxidatively degraded to smaller molecules after incubation for 24 h. Of the four disaccharides examined, namely, maltose, isomaltose, cellobiose, and gentiobiose, the α-(1→6)-linked disaccharide isomaltose exhibited the highest reactivity, whereas the β-(1→4)-linked disaccharidecellobiose showed the lowest
Mannoglucan derivatives wherein from about 2 to 51 per 100 of side chain .alpha.-D-mannopyranosyl residues of mannoglucan have been cleaved and reduced to polyhydroxy residues possess antitumor activity with reduced pyrogenecity.

readily by leadtetraacetateoxidation. Compounds examined include aldose and ketose disaccharides and aldobiuronic acids. Two types of reaction—one catalyzed by potassium acetate and the other non-catalyzed—are employed jointly to illustrate oxidation patterns which clearly differentiate each position of the biose linkage. Partial degradation of reducing disaccharides by leadtetraacetateoxidation is illustrated
