  Three new pinguisane-type sesquiterpenes, 6 alpha-hydroxy-3-oxo-pinguis-5(10)-ene-11,6-olide, 6 alpha-methoxy-3-oxo-pinguis-5(10)-ene-11,6-olide and 3-oxo-pinguis-5(10),6-diene-11,6-olide, together with pinguisone, have been isolated from axenic culture of the liverwort, Aneura pinguis. Their structures and relative stereochemistry were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic evidence and chemical transformation.
