  Podocarpic acid has been unambiguously converted to nimbiol and nimbiol methyl ether thus confirming the complete structures assigned to these substances. In the course of this work, a group of C-7 methyl derivatives of podocarpic acid has been prepared. The physical constants of these methyl derivatives are compared with the constants of the parent substances.

  The thermally promoted reactions of some phenyl and diterpenoid eta2-(2-acylaryl-C,O)tetracarbonylmanganese(I) complexes with phenyl vinyl sulfone, methyl vinyl sulfone, or phenyl vinyl sulfoxide, have been investigated. The major products from the diterpenoid complexes arise from insertion followed by reductive demetallation; cyclopenta-annulation, when it occurs, is a minor process. Liberation of the metal-free adducts from their Mn-containing precursors requires treatment with either acid or photolysis-oxidation.
