Six new spongian diterpene derivatives, ceylonins A–F (1–6), were isolated from the Indonesian marine sponge Spongia ceylonensis along with spongia-13(16),14-dien-19-oic acid (7). They contained three additional carbons in ring D to supply an ether-bridged bicyclicringsystem. Four novel diterpenoids. spongiabutenolides A - D (2-5). all of which contain a gamma-hydroxybutenolide moiety. have been isolated from a Philippines marine sponge of the genus Spongia. The structures of spongiabutenolides A - D (2-5) and the methyl esters 6 and 7 were elucidated by interpretation of spectral data.
