Easily accessible 2-benzoylamino-3,3-dichloroacrylonitrile, when treated successively with primary amines, phosphorus pentachloride, sulfur dioxide, and various N- or S-nucleophiles, furnishes the corresponding derivatives of 1,2-dihydro-2lambda}sup 5}-[1,3]oxazolo[5,4-d][1,3,2]diazaphosphinine, a novel fused heterocycle.
