The invention relates to an improved method for the preparation of alkylsalicylaldehyde or its corresponding metallic salts. The invention also relates to a method for the preparation of alkylsalicylaldoxime by reacting said alkylsalicylaldehyde or its corresponding metallic salts with hydroxylamine or its salt.
