A simple and efficient method for α-alkylation of ketones with primary alcohols catalyzed by RhCl(CO)(PPh3)2 without additional additives under mild conditions is developed. It has a wide substrate scope, high atom-efficiency and chemoselectivity. It is an environmentally friendly method to build CC bond because water is the only byproduct.
Highly efficient arylations of β‐chloro ketones and their ester and amide derivatives were achieved by means of domino dehydrochlorination/Rh(I)‐catalyzed conjugate addition. In situ generated vinyl ketones and their analogues were identified as the reaction intermediates. The present synthetic protocol provides a concise route to (chiral) β‐aryl ketones, esters, and amides.

Their formation can be explained via acid triggered decarboxylation of cinnamic acid esters and subsequent inter/intramolecular cyclization. Overall process involves in the intramolecular cleavage of two σ-bonds (C–O and C–C) and inter/intramolecular construction of two/one C–C σ-bond(s). Significantly, this protocol was successful without the aid of any metal salts.

Herein, we report an efficient and sustainable approach for the selective synthesis of ketones by palladium pincer catalyzed β-alkylation of secondaryalcohols with aromatic primary alcohols via the borrowing hydrogen (BH) approach for the first time. A set of new Pd(II) ONO pincer complexes was synthesized and characterised by elemental analysis and spectral techniques (FT-IR, NMR and HRMS). The solid-state
