Triamantane was synthesized in 80% yield by skeletal isomerization of a mixture of heptacyclo(8.8.0.02,17.03,11.04,9.012,16.013,18)octadecane and heptacyclo(8.8.0.02,13.03,11.04,9.012,17.014,18)octadecane under the action of the ionic liquid 2AlCl3–Et3N·HCl and mild conditions (50 °С, 8 h). X-ray diffraction analysis confirms the structure of the obtained product.

Alkynes and norbornadiene can be codimerized in a [2 + 2 +2] Homo-Diels-Alder reaction, yielding deltacyclenes. Instead of reduced Co species as used in former cases, Co(II)-complexes activated with Lewis acids such as ZnI2 or ZnCl2 are used to obtain the same products. The [CoI(PPh3)2]+ cation appears to be the catalytically active compound.

본 발명은 노르보르나디엔(norbornadiene)(바이사이클로(2.2.1)헵타-2,5-디엔,NBD)의 이량화 반응 시 주촉매로 코발트 계열의 화합물 및 4가지 각종 기능의 화합물 즉, 생성물 안정제, 환원촉매, 촉매활성증진제, 금속촉매를 혼합 사용하여 생성되는 NBD 이량체 중 칠각고리 바이너-에스형 NBD 이량체(heptacyclic Binor-S NBD dimer)를 고수율인 95∼99몰% 범위로 제조하는 방법에 관한 것이다. 이를 이용하면 heptacyclic Binor-S 형 NBD 이량체 수율을 95∼99몰% 범위로 제조가 가능하고, 저가의 코발트계열의 촉매를 사용하여 경제적인 효과를 갖는 장점이 있다.
