Easily accessible calixarene p-bromodienone derivatives undergo a silver-mediated nucleophilic substitution and a subsequent rearomatization with a range of different O-nucleophiles (alcohols and carboxylates) to give p-alkoxy- or p-acyloxycalixarenes in workable yields. This approach can be considered a general “p-bromodienone route” to functionalizecalixarene exo rim with nucleophiles.
