Problem to Be Solved: to provide a chromophore having a far superior nonlinear optical activity to conventional chromophores and to provide a nonlinear optical element comprising said chromophore.
Solution: a chromophore comprising a donor structure D, a π-conjugated bridge structure B, and an acceptor structure A, the donor structure D comprising an aryl group substituted with a substituted oxy group; and a nonlinear optical element comprising said chromophore.
A complex formed by two 1,6-anhydro-β-maltoses with peroxide and two sodium ions has been isolated and determined to be [Na2(1,6-anhydro-β-maltose)2(H2O)3]O2 by X-ray crystallography. The O2 moiety, 1.496(2) Å for the O–O distances in the complex was identified as a discrete peroxide dianion, whereas two sodium and two carbohydrate molecules constitute a binuclear complex counter cation.The complex containing the discrete peroxide dianion was proven to be a useful oxidizing agent, which successfully oxidized α,β-unsaturated ketone to epoxyketone.

Abstract The α-oxidation of cyclic derivatives of α-alkoxy-α, β-unsaturated ketones usingmanganese(III) acetate in the presence of various carboxylicacids provided a convenient synthesis of 5-acyloxy-2-alkoxy-2-cyclopentenones and 6-acyloxy-2-alkoxy-2-cyclohexenones.
