    Fluorinated bifunctional derivatives of bisphenol A
    摘要:
    Bisphenol A reacted as its disodium salt with tetrafluoroethylene and carbon dioxide followed by dimethyl sulfate to give in high yield a symmetrical dimethyl ester assembled from seven structural elements. This diester was transformed into the corresponding diol, diamide, diamine, diisocyanate, and bis(methyl carbamate). Analogous diesters were prepared by using bisphenol A and chlorotrifluoroethylene as well as hexafluorobisphenol A and tetrafluoroethylene. Both of these esters were transformed into other bifunctional derivatives. Catalytic hydrogenation of the diol derived from bisphenol A and tetrafluoroethylene was accompanied by hydrogenolysis of the aryl-oxygen bonds.

    A method for carrying out a chemical reaction between at least two reactants occupying separate phases within a multiphase reaction mixture has been discovered in which at least one phosphazenium salt is employed as a phase transfer catalyst. The remarkable utility of phosphazenium salts as phase transfer catalysts is illustrated by the preparation of aromatic ethers. The phosphazenium salt phase transfer catalysts are shown to be especially useful in the preparation of aromatic polyethers such as polyether sulfones.

    The production of low color polyetherimides, including its intermediates, such as bisimides and diaryl diether dianhydrides, may be affected by producing an improved purity intermediate of 4-nitro-N-alkylphthalimide. A salt, such as alkali metal carbonate or alkali metal hydrogen carbonate, is added to an aqueous mixture of 4-nitro-N-alkylphthalimide and 3-nitro-N-alkylphthalimide to selectively hydrolyze the imide linkage of 3-nitro-N-alkylphthalimide forming a water-soluble acid-amide salt. An organic solvent is added to this salt mixture to phase separate 4-nitro-N-alkylphthalimide having dissolved in the organic solvent from acid-amide salt of 3-nitro-N-alkylphthalimide having dissolved in water.

    A method for the manufacture of a metal salt of a hydroxy-substituted aromatic compound comprises reacting a hydroxy-substituted aromatic compound with a base comprising a metal cation in an aqueous medium to provide a mixture comprising water and a metal salt of the hydroxy-substituted aromatic compound; contacting the mixture with a substantially water-immiscible solvent at a temperature greater than the boiling point of water at a prevailing pressure; introducing an optionally substituted C1-6 aliphatic alcohol; and removing water and the alcohol to provide a slurry comprising the metal salt of the hydroxy-substituted aromatic compound and the water-immiscible solvent.

    The present invention discloses a process for preparing dibasic salt of bisphenol from bisphenol and alkali, wherein the bisphenol and the alkali are reacted in a reaction medium consisting of an organic solvent or an aqueous inorganic salt solution, and then through filtration, a highly pure dibasic salt of bisphenol is directly obtained at a yield of higher than 90%.

    Disclosed is a method for preparing an alkali metal salt of a hydroxy-substituted hydrocarbon which comprises the steps of (i) contacting in solvent media at least one hydroxy-substituted hydrocarbon with a base comprising an alkali metal cation; and (ii) devolatilizing the solvent media comprising alkali metal salt by adding or spraying the solvent media into a substantially water-immiscible organic solvent, said solvent being at a temperature greater than the boiling point of solvent media at the prevailing pressure. In one embodiment the solvent media comprises water, and optionally at least one water-soluble protic organic solvent.
