The syntheses of two novel imidazole-based N,N,Oand N,N,S ligands, 2,2-bis(N-methylimidazol-2-yl)ethanol (Hbmie) and lithium bis(N-methylimidazol-2-yl)dithioacetate Li[bmidta], are described. The coordination properties of the two new ligands are studied by the synthesis of rhenium(I) and ruthenium(II) complexes.
