    Cis-diammineplatinum(II) organophosphate complexes where the organophosphate moiety is a glycerophosphate or a monosaccharide phosphate moiety are prepared by reaction of cis-diaquodiammineplatinum(II) salts with alkali metal organophosphates. The resulting complexes possess pronounced anti-tumor activity in mice and low toxicity; consequently, they have high therapeutic indices.

    Disclosed are a composition including hydrophilic nanoparticles that have a monosaccharide-phosphate or a derivative thereof adhered to the surface thereof, a colloidal solution of the composition dispersed in water, and a magnetic resonance imaging contrast agent including the colloidal solution. According to the present invention, nanoparticles having biocompatibility and excellent water-dispersibility can be prepared by modifying the surface of inorganic nanoparticles. The prepared nanoparticles may be effectively used in a variety of applications including, for example, in vivo imaging applications such as an MRI contrast agent, nano-electronic convergence technologies such as a quantum dot light emitting device, biomedical applications such as hyperthermia, or the like. Moreover, compared to existing nanoparticles dispersed by a dispersion stabilizer known in the art, excellent dispersion stability and a relatively small hydrodynamic diameter may be attained.

    A multi-component formulation for the treatment, delay, and/or prevention of cognitive decline, including Alzheimer's disease, and/or other neurodegenerative diseases. One embodiment of the multi-component formulation comprises methylsulfonylmethane, at least one energy source component, and at least one of an herbal component or a nutritional component. In one formulation, the energy source component is fructose 1,6-diphosphate. An herbal component of at least one formulation is curcumin. In one further formulation, a nutritional component is a component of green tea such as epigallocatechin-3-gallate.

    Self-forming hybrid compositions consisting in admixed liquid and solid components enable the formation of bio-materials. The present invention proposes a) a thermo-sensitive self-forming liquid component, being water-based and containing at least a polycationic polymer such as chitosan, and an organic mono-phosphate source, which is a solution at a pH ranging from 6.5 to 7.4; b) a solid component being mineral and composed of at least one of calcium, fluoride, strontium, carbonate and phosphate salts. Solid mineral salts preferentially have a recognized bioactive potential such as the calcium phosphate salts for bones. Both solid and liquid components are admixed to form an injectable liquid slurry or pre-gelled paste that turn in situ into a hybrid uniform gel-like bio-material.
