This invention relates to certain 2ʹ-fluoro nucleosides and pharmaceutically acceptable derivatives thereof and their use in the treatment and prophylaxis of HIV infections. Also provided are pharmaceutical formulations and processes for the production of the compounds according to the invention.

Twenty purine 2'-deoxy-2'-fluororibosides were synthesized by enzymic pentosyl transfer from 2'-deoxy-2'-fluorouridine.
