Total synthesis of novel hybrid natural products, merosesquiterpenoids macrophorin A, 4'-oxomacrophorin A, and l'-epi-craterellin A has been accomplished following a general strategy based on a sacrificial Diels-Alder-retroDiels-Alder approach to control regio- and stereoselectivity.
